When I first began my studies many years ago, one of the first things I learned was how to breathe.  That may sound a little strange, that I had to learn how to breathe, but using the Breath is an integral part of Healing Work.  My Guidance feel it is so necessary, that they asked me to present some important Breaths to help enhance your Healing Work.

We breathe automatically.  We don't have to think about it.  It's something we take for granted - that whether we are awake or asleep, we will breathe. We understand as long as we are breathing we are present in the Physical Body, and that when we make transition from this World to the Next, our Breath will cease.

The Ancients recognized the importance of proper breathing.  They taught it in their Mystery Schools.  Every disciple had to learn the principles of correct breathing in order to continue their studies.  Adepts were able to perform remarkable feats through the use of their Breath!

Modern scientists have found that a person will take somewhere around 16 breaths per minute while awake, and around 6-8 breaths per minute when sleeping.  Stress can cause a person to breathe 100 breaths per minute. On average, a person will breathe 2,300 times a day.

There is an intimate relationship between how we breathe and our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual lives.  Natural, healthy respiration can not only increase longevity and support our overall well-being and spiritual development, but can frequently help with medical conditions such as asthma, panic attacks, heart disease, high blood pressure, stress and many other problems.

Have you ever watched a baby sleep?  You may not have noticed, but babies breathe deeply into their bellies. This is where the diaphragm is located - in the Solar Plexus or Third Chakra area of the Physical Body.  This is how we are intended to breathe.  But as we mature and go through our life experiences, our breathing switches from deep belly breathing to shallow lung breaths.

A lot of this switching results from what we are taught.  Have you ever been told not to breathe on someone because you have a cold?  Or had someone say to you, "Don't hold your breath"?  These are common examples of how others can condition us to not breathe properly.

So what is Breath?  And why it is so important to breathe correctly?  The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines Breath as:  The act or power of breathing; air inhaled or exhaled in breathing; spirit.

Then Breath is more than just air.   Breath is also Spirit.  Divine Substance, Divine Fire.

"And God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7 KJV.

There are many words used to describe Breath.  Prana is one.  Mana is another.  Chi, Ki, Qi, Anima, and Orgone or Orgonne are other words associated with Breath.  We will use the term Prana in our presentation of The Breath.

The word Prana is Sanskrit for Life Force.  It is the Universal Principle of Energy, Vital Force.  It is all-pervading and exists in every living thing.

The Human Body derives Prana through breathing.  Breath connects the nervous system, mind and Vital Energy.  Breath, body and mind are all energized by Pranic Life Force.  Pranic Life Force is that aspect of Energy used for incarnation, and preservation and expression of the individual Self.  This Energy enables your real Self to inhabit a Physical vehicle in order to fulfill a mission here on the Earth vibratory level, and to maintain the Self's connection and control over the Physical Body.

Life Force, or Prana is stored in the Solar Plexus area of our Subtle Bodies.  When we learn to breathe properly, we are harnessing the power of Breath to harmonize our own Physical Bodies and to increase our capacity to extend Healing Energy to others.  If we are not breathing correctly, we are limiting the power of that Healing Energy.

Healers should never use their own energy for Healing, as this depletes their own store of Prana, which can lead to illnesses and disease if not restored immediately.  When a Healer uses their own energy for Healing purposes, they are giving away their own essence - the energy patterns, thoughts, emotions and physical dis-ease contained within themselves, and receiving the energy patterns, thoughts, emotions and physical dis-ease of the other person.

The use of Self-energy causes Prana to dissipate quickly.  This leads to tears in the Etheric aura, and prevents the storage of Vital Prana in the Subtle Bodies.  Proper breathing insures the Healer is not giving away Vital Prana and their own essence, but is using Divine Energy to stimulate Healing in another person.

Prana is Etheric substance.  You can never gain weight from it.  As silly as that seems, some Schools actually teach that a big belly means a lot of Prana.  Not so.  Prana is stored in the Solar Plexus areas of the Etheric Bodies, not the Physical Body.  It is not material or physical in nature, so it could never cause a weight gain.  Pranic breathing can actually help you lose weight.  As the Physical Body begins to function properly you will find your requirements for nourishment changes, and your craving for lower vibrational foods (junk foods in particular) decreases.  If you are gaining weight from doing these exercises and breathing properly, I recommend examining your diet!

In order to help you understand the organs of Breath, the diagrams below demonstrate the positioning of the lungs and the diaphragm.  You can clearly see how the entire pulmonary system is linked in a flowing dance to vitalize and quicken the entire Physical form.

The following breathing techniques should be learned and practiced in the order they are presented.  Each Exercise builds you up slowly for the next.   Do not try to rush the perfection of each Breath.  Take your time and master each one before going on to the next.

Each Breathing Exercise should be practiced for at least one week before moving on to the next one.  As you learn each new Breath, include it in your daily Breathing Exercise routine, along with the ones you previously learned.

The following four Breaths are imperative to the Vital Energy of the Physical, Emotional and Spiritual bodies.  Learn them well and use them daily.

If you tire or get dizzy while doing a particular Breath, reduce the number of repetitions, or shorten the length of each Breath, and slowly build up to the full exercise.  You should never be uncomfortable doing these or any other Breathing Exercises.
THE BREATH
Breathing for Health
and Higher Awareness
THE HUMAN LUNGS

Your lungs are like bellows, drawing air into your Physical Form and exhaling it out again.  The lungs are elastic and have numerous minute openings to the blood vessels.  Air from the lungs is forced into the blood vessels during breathing.  When pressure is applied to the lungs through Breathing Exercises and proper Breath, the pressure in the lungs increases and forces more air into the blood stream, thereby supplying more oxygen to all the cells of the Physical Form.  Breathing properly improves mind power, will power, and immunity, and increases the oxygen supply to all the tissues of the Physical Body.  Increased blood circulation removes waste products such as carbon dioxide and other toxins from the cells, contributing to the overall health of the Physical Form.
THE HUMAN DIAPHRAGM

After the heart, the diaphragm is the most important muscle in the Physical Body.

The diaphragm is a dome-shaped membrane extending across the body below the chest cavity and separating the lungs and heart from the abdomen.  Its edge follows the general outlines of the lower ribs.

When the diaphragm straightens out and compresses downward, it sucks air into the lungs.  When the air is released through exhalation, the diaphragm uncompresses to prepare for the next inflow of air.

The lungs are dependent on the diaphragm to do their work.  Without the diaphragm, we would not be able to breathe at all!
There are many reasons for breathing correctly, and they are not limited to enhancement of the Physical Form.  Breathing properly helps us expand consciousness, increase intuition, and allows us to do Healing Work more effectively. Correct breathing is the bridge between our Conscious Mind and the Divine.  It is our path to Health, Higher Awareness and Enlightenment!
