THE SEVEN-CHAKRA SYSTEM
Within the human system are four bodies: the Physical, the Etheric, the Astral and the Mental.  These bodies are intertwined so that they are a part of the physical body, but are separate as a vibration so that they also function separately.  The joining of the Physical and Etheric bodies is called the Subtle Body, and it is within this Subtle Body that our Chakras lie.

Our bodies vibrate to certain wavelengths.  These wavelengths differ in various parts of the world.  In the Eastern Hemisphere, in India and the Orient, the vibrations of the Physical Body are more closely attuned to the Etheric Body, and because of this vibration, the Physical Body is able to respond to the more subtle changes around it.

In the Western Hemisphere, the vibrational differences in the body and the location of the individual, are of a more dense nature than in the Eastern Hemisphere.  When a Westerner tries to practice the Eastern energy system, he/she could have a difficult time adjusting, just as when traveling between time changes and different parts of the world.  Therefore, until one's vibration is sufficient to accept the subtle energies of the Eastern Chakra system, one should use only the colors associated with the Western system when doing healing work or balancing one's own Chakras.

The Sanskrit word "Chakra" simply means "Wheel of Energy."  These seven wheels have lines or streams of radiation pouring out from their centers.  These rays of energy and power resemble the whirling spokes of a wheel.  The Chakras also resemble flowers, the lines of radiation causing the appearance of petals.  The root of each Chakra, or Center, is always imbedded in some gland in the physical body.

The First Chakra, or Root Chakra, emanates four distinct beams of radiation which cause the appearance of a cross within its center.  It also resembles an unfolded flower with four large petals.  The predominant color within the flower is Red.  This Chakra is the Center of Consciousness in man and lies in the area of the female uterus and the male prostate.  This is the Center of man's Seed Atom.  Man, in his Divine Essence, began from the Seed Atom, the atoms of Adam and Eve, located in the Root Chakra.  All of one's physical activities are created in this Chakra and directly relate to one's Karmic past, present and future.  What is created here, in the First Chakra,  can be transmuted through the other Centers.  The Sanskrit word for the The First Chakra is Muladhara.  Its Element is Earth.  The First Chakra resonates to the tonal note of C.

The Second Chakra, or Navel Chakra, superimposes the navel and extends to the spleen and the pancreas.  It radiates six streams of power.  It has no predominate color, and seems to emit equally red, blue and green, although the color most associated with the Second Chakra is Orange. It is through this Center that Prana (life force or life energy) is indrawn into the Etheric Body.  The colors of the Second Chakra are enhanced, made clearer, as one transmutes Karma and moves toward the Divine.    The Sanskrit word for the Second Chakra is Swadhisthana.  Its Element is Water. The Second Chakra resonates to the tonal note D.

The Third Chakra, or Solar Plexis Chakra, superimposes the Solar Plexis and impinges on the apex of the liver.  It is the most sensitive Center in man's present state of evolution.  It is the place where 72,000 subtle nerves join to filter, transform and distribute subtle energy throughout the Subtle Body.  It controls the adrenals and is the Seat of the Astral Body.  This Center is the point of vital contact between the Astral and Physical bodies.  It forms the triangle of the Optic Chasm at its center.  This Center possesses 10 petals.  This is the "abdominal brain" or "astral brain" in man. the brain of man's feelings and his emotions.  The color most associated with this Chakra is Yellow.  The Sanskrit word for the The Third Chakra is Manipura.  Its Element is Fire.  The Third Chakra resonates to the tonal note of E.

As man passes from the First Chakra to the Second, the color Red of the Root Chakra, the Seed Atom, becomes Red, Blue and Green as prana is indrawn to the Second Chakra and passes to the Third Chakra, where Prana is stored.  As one transmutes Karma and moves toward the Divine, the colors become clear and are enhanced. This is the raising of man's consciousness and the beginning of the raising of Kundalini.

The Fourth Chakra, or Heart Chakra, superimposes the thymus gland between the shoulder blades and the right auricle or pulse point of the heart.  It possesses twelve petals of radiation.  It joins the Yin of the three higher Chakras, the feminine, with the Yang of the three lower Chakras, the masculine, and forms a six-pointed star at its heart.  The color most associated with the Fourth Chakra is usually Green, the combination of the Yellow of the Physical/Emotional Center and the Blue of the expression of the physical emotions in the Fifth Chakra.  The Sanskrit word for The Fourth Chakra is Anahata.  Its Element is Air.  The Fourth Chakra resonates to the tonal note of F.

The Fifth Chakra, or Throat Chakra, unfolds sixteen petals.  It superimposes the thyroid gland and extends to embrace the medulla oblongata.  This is the Center which allows us to express our Divine intentions.  It allows us to express transmuted emotion and sends us upward to Divine Light.  The color usually associated with this Center is  light Blue, although the hues are constantly changing.  Weaving among the rainbow shades is a peculiar fluid, which can only be described as a "River of Light"  and could be described as White or Silvery.  The Sanskrit word for the Fifth Chakra is Vhishudda.  Its Element is Ether.  The Fifth Chakra resonates to the tonal note of G.

It is within the Heart and Throat Chakras that the consciousness of the person on the path usually dwells: the Heart as the Center of Compassion and the Throat as the Center of Creativity.  One should strive to express these two qualities.

The Sixth Chakra or Brow Chakra emanates 96 streams of etheric radiation.  This is the center of the Third-Eye, the center of Clairvoyance, Clairaudience and other psychic phenomena, and one's Sixth-Sense.  It is the Seat of Higher Intuition, the visionary quality.  This Center connects with the pituitary gland and is feminine-negative in polarity.

The Sixth Chakra is located at a point almost directly between the eyebrows and is linked to the pituitary and the pineal glands. It is the Master Gland or controller of the entire glandular system. The hormones emitted by the pituitary gland create the activity in all the other glands in the body, bringing vitality and life force into the form.  The pituitary is divided into two lobes; the front lobe (anterior) is essentially physical in its activity.  It causes the distribution of important physical essences through the body.  The rear or posterior lobe, when it is used to its full potential, becomes a spiritual field.  The posterior lobe of the pituitary is always open to receive inpouring substances of a spiritual nature.

The predominant colors of the Brow Chakra are an indescribable Violet and a glorious Golden hue.  This Center seems to be divided in the middle by a powerful current from above, causing it to appear to have only two large magnificent flower petals, with 48 smaller petals within one half.  The large petal on the left side houses the pituitary gland and is feminine in polarity.  Its color is Violet.  The right side houses the pineal gland and is masculine in polarity.  It radiates streams of Golden Light.  The current of power which divides the Brow Chakra raises straight up through the top of the head to connect with the Seventh Chakra or Crown Center.  The Western teaching vibrates to the color Indigo.  The Sanskrit word for The Sixth Chakra is Ajna, which means "Light."  The Seventh Chakra resonates to the tonal note of A.

The Seventh Chakra or Crown Chakra is often called the Thousand-Petaled Lotus, the center of which lies not only on top of the head, but rises, once activated, in magnificent splendor to unite with the Oversoul - the God Consciousness - the Christ Consciousness.

The Seventh Chakra superimposes the pineal gland and radiates outward to cover the entire top of the head like a skull-cap.  Its color can only be described as White Light although the color most associated with the Seventh Chakra is deep Purple to Violet.  The Sanskrit word for the Seventh Chakra is Sahasrara.  The Seventh Chakra resonates to the tonal note of B.

In Western cultures, it is usually practiced that the First Chakra is associated with physical activity, stability and survival, and that it is the center of the physical expression of one's sexual feelings.  This is only so in the sense that the First Chakra is in the area of the sexual glands, and that the First Chakra always grounds one to earth.  One transmutes Karma as one progresses upward.  One must be grounded to reality and must will to transmute before any can take place.  The color of the First Chakra is always perceived as red in all schools of teaching.

In some schools it is taught that the Second Chakra is the Chakra of feelings, sensations and creativity, that it is the Seat of the Will by others schools, and still others, that it is the Center of Sexual Activity.  It is true that if one centers only in the first three Chakras, that the physical emotions of lust and greed will be created in the Second Chakra to be expressed in the Third Chakra as personal power and will.  This keeps man on the physical and material plane.  Rationality and understanding reach only a physical level.  The love of Self is perpetuated.  One cannot expect to advance to the higher elevations, to God Consciousness, by centering in the three lower Chakras as these are the Centers of Self.  To advance to a higher understanding, one must transmute that which binds one to the material plane.  Thus, Will, the will to survive, the will to learn, the will to transmute, always begins in the First Chakra.

The emotions created by remaining in the first two Chakras will manifest in the Solar Plexus Chakra, or Third Chakra.  This is easy to understand when you see so many persons bound in greed, love of material things and love of Self and why the fear of losing those things manifests in the Third Chakra.  When one lives their life in the three lower Centers instead of progressing upward toward enlightenment, one allows ego and pride to control.  When one realizes this, then one is able to approach the Third Chakra in order to transmute the emotions manifested there.  These emotions can appear as very real and tangible physical problems, usually beginning the area of the pancreas, the spleen or the liver, to become manifest in the Third Chakra as fear, jealousy or greed.

After balancing the first three Chakras and as one ascends to the Heart Center, one begins to feel the transmutation of the feelings created and held within the first three Chakras.  One's love becomes Divine and compassionate, and vibrates easily to the color green, which one can readily accept into his present vibration.

As one progresses spiritually on the quest for Higher Consciousness, those colors change as one's vibration becomes higher.  One will no longer vibrate to the physical colors of the lower Self and will begin to experience the harmonic colors of spiritual consciousness.
